The A/C condensate drain is essential for eliminating excess water produced by an air conditioning system. Unfortunately, there are various things that can go wrong with drainage. Here are three frequent reasons why you may be experiencing issues with your condensate drain.

Drain Trap Issues

The A/C condensate drain, like your kitchen or bathroom sink, has a U-shaped trap as part of its construction. When filled with water, the trap prevents gases from entering the system from the domestic sewage drain connection. If your air conditioner has not been used in a long time, or if the drain line is constructed with the incorrect incline for channeling condensate, the water inside the trap may dry out, allowing toxic sewer gases to enter the unit.

Mould Development

The condensate drains system’s dark, moist confines are ideal for mold spores to develop and multiply. Mold can spread through the duct system from the A/C Condensate Drain Pan into the remainder of the system, disseminating hazardous spores throughout your home. It can also clog the condensate drain, resulting in water backing up and overflowing from the drain pan. Mold growth on the evaporator coil can actually choke the A/C system by blocking airflow through the coil fins.

Leakage

A variety of causes can contribute to condensate leakage. For starters, it could be caused by a damaged or rusted condensate drain pan. Stress, unintentional impact, or aging can all cause cracks or holes in the PVC drain pipe. Debris or mold clogs can also cause leaks through an overflowing condensate drain pan.
